Capacity Gaps Specific to Utah The state’s five major health systems are concentrated along the Wasatch Front, leaving 23 of 29 counties without a licensed child and adolescent psychiatrist. Applicants must therefore demonstrate referral pathways to telepsychiatry or in-person crisis services within 90 minutes of any backcountry site.
Infrastructure and Workforce Constraints Utah’s 84,900 square miles include 65 percent federal land, requiring special-use permits from the Bureau of Land Management or U.S. Forest Service for multi-day activities.
